Posted by slang on December 29, 2008
Sumatra, part of Indonesia was first reached by Europeans for trade in 1599. Until 1824, this island became a Dutch possession. British coins for the island were struck at the Birmingham Mint by Matthew Boulton in 1786 and other issues were struck at Indian mints.
The coin here is the 2 kepings, copper thin planchet of 4.40 g dated AH1219(Year 1804) issued by the East India Company (1685-1824). { 400 kepings=1 Spanish Dollar}
