Abbreviation Commonly Used To Describe Coin Conditions

Append below are some of the commonly used abbreviations to describe the coin conditions:

Definition

P.

Poor: less desirable than FAIR, yet the design can usually be distinguished

FR.

Fair: quite badly worn and usually highly undesirable

A.G.

About Good

G.

Good: Worn but lettering and design all clear

V.G.

Very Good: Definite signs of wear but not altogether unattractive

A.F.

About Fine

EX.F.

Find: Perceptible signs of wear but still a desirable piece

A.U.

Almost Uncirculated

UNC

No signs of wear other than possible bag marks, but not necessarily brilliant. Used interchangeable with MS-60

B.U.

Brilliant Uncirculated. Sharply struck with full mint luster. May exhibit toning. Used interchangeably with MS-65

PR.

Proof: A piece produced by a technique involving specially prepared dies and planchets and usually special striking

GEM

Perfect specimen

CR.UNC.

Crisp Uncirculated: Paper money which has not been in circulation
